License Renewals Impacted by COVID

Providers with a Medical Board license set to expire between March 9, 2020 and November 30, 2020 were granted an extension because of the COVID-19 emergency. Those licenses will now expire December 1, 2020.

There is no penalty for renewing early. However, late fees, fines and discipline can occur for missing the renewal deadline.

To find your renewal date or renew a license, log into eLicense.ohio.gov. Please feel free to contact us at License@med.ohio.gov if you have any questions or need any assistance during the renewal process.

OARRS Account Update and Delegate Reverification Workflow

Starting in September 2020, OARRS users were prompted to update or confirm their PMP AWARxE Profile information on a biannual basis. The purpose of this verification requirement is to ensure all OARRS profile information is up-to-date and accurate.
Additionally, OARRS will also be requiring semi-annual confirmation of all linked delegates to protect the security of the patient data in the system.

Emails to account holders indicating they have 45 days to complete this verification process were sent beginning on September 30, 2020.

OARRS account holders are strongly encouraged to login to their accounts to verify the required information. Failure to confirm account details and delegates may disrupt user access, including delegate access. IMPORTANT: This provision will not impact integrated systems where OARRS information is directly accessed via an electronic medical record or pharmacy dispensing system.

For more information on these processes, the board has developed the following guidance documents:

•  Delegate Reverification Workflow: www.pharmacy.ohio.gov/workflow

•  OARRS Account Update: www.pharmacy.ohio.gov/accountupdate

Account holders should review these documents for any questions. For any additional questions, account holders should contact the OARRS Department.

Mental Health and Substance Use Disorder Benefits Toolkit

Understanding health insurance coverage for mental health and substance use disorder benefits can be complicated or difficult to navigate. The Ohio Department of Insurance has been front and center educating Ohioans on how to access the mental health and substance use disorder benefits that may be in their health plan. This online toolkit was created to help consumers, providers, and advocates understand benefits and coverage for mental health and substance use disorders.

Board seeks subject matter experts
The State Medical Board of Ohio contracts with qualified medical experts for quality of care reviews. The board is currently seeking experts in family medicine, internal medicine and pain management. Potential experts should have a clinical practice within Ohio and be board-certified for a minimum of five years. If interested, email your CV to donald.davis@med.ohio.gov.
COVID-19 Updates

Ohio licensure during the state of emergency

The Medical Board has received many inquiries regarding temporary licensure during the state emergency. Please be aware, Ohio law does not currently offer emergency or temporary licensure for out-of-state physicians. Unless an exemption applies (Ohio Revised Code 4731.36), physicians must hold an active Ohio license to practice medicine in the state of Ohio.

Testing

No-cost COVID-19 testing sites are available throughout Ohio. This map lists a combination of private companies, retail sites, Community Health Centers, and pop-up sites offering testing.

Electronic Death Certification Available

All Ohio physicians may request to electronically complete and sign/certify the cause of death for Ohio records in the Electronic Death Registration System (EDRS). Switching to electronic certification eliminates in-person contact for funeral homes, medical providers, and local health districts, provides work queues in EDRS showing physicians all death records needing action, and allows immediate registration of death records upon certification.  For questions or to sign up for electronic certification, contact the Ohio Department of Health Bureau of Vital Statistics at VS.Helpdesk@odh.ohio.gov.
