Newly Adopted Rules
During its Nov. 8, 2023 board meeting, the Medical Board adopted new rules. The following rules will go into effect on Nov. 30, 2023.
|

|
The State Medical Board of Ohio (SMBO) has partnered with the Ohio Professionals Health Program (OhioPHP) to administer a new Confidential Monitoring Program to all licensees and applicants of the State Medical Board of Ohio who may have issues impacting their health and well-being, including:
- Substance use disorders
- Mental health disorders
- Physical conditions
- Other potentially impairing illnesses
OhioPHP is now offering free, virtual trainings with OhioPHP Medical Director, Richard Whitney, MD to educate providers about the changes to the program and how to access services. To register for a training, click on the desired date/time below:

Podiatry Rules: Medical Board Seeks Comments

Petition period now open for medical marijuana qualifying conditions
The submission period is now open through December 31. Anyone may submit a petition requesting a condition be added to the Ohio Medical Marijuana Control Program. If a condition has been previously rejected by the board, the new petition must contain new scientific information that supports the request. No submissions will be accepted after December 31. Monthly Formal Action reports include summary descriptions of the disciplinary actions initiated and the disciplinary sanctions imposed by the Medical Board at its monthly meeting. Reports also contain updated information regarding changes in probationary monitoring requirements, reinstatement of licenses following suspension, and status reports of cases on appeal through the courts.

New Version of OARSS Overdose Risk Score Goes Live Nov. 29
The State of Ohio Board of Pharmacy and Bamboo Health are pleased to announce new NarxCare functionality within the Ohio Automated Rx Reporting System, beginning Nov. 29, 2023. This will be available to users, accessing Patient Reports via both PMP AWARxE (web portal) and PMP Gateway (integration).
A new version of the Overdose Risk Score is comprised of two parts:
- A new unintentional overdose death risk scoring model
- Presentation of key contributing factors to the model's calculation of the likelihood of unintentional overdose death alongside the model

Partners in Professionalism
The Partners in Professionalism (PIP) program is an opportunity for the State Medical Board to educate students about the responsibility of Medical Board licensure and the consequences of violating Ohio regulation. The board desires to make a lasting impact on these students and the formation of their careers.
The board looks forward to further expanding the PIP program to other schools in Ohio and will continue to partner with educators in preparing young health professionals for their futures.

Licensee Obligation to Complete Death Certificates

Well-Being CARE Service
The Ohio State Medical Association created a Well-Being Checkup And Referral Engagement Service, which is a free, anonymous checkup of one's mental and emotional health. For more information, click here.
