Reminder to Beware of Email and Phone Scams
Licensees should remain vigilant against the resurfaced spoofing and extortion scams targeting Ohio providers. Recently, the board has received reports of scammers emailing licensees to access a secure document via an included hyperlink (see example below). Additionally, scammers are posing as Medical Board staff, stating the provider is being investigated by the FBI or DEA and their license has been suspended.
Visit our website to learn how to identify a legitimate investigation and how to verify if a caller is an employee of the Medical Board.
If you are contacted by a scammer, please report the incident to your local law enforcement and Ohio's Attorney General by filing a complaint online at ohioprotects.org or by calling 800-282-0515. |

Licensees Must Cooperate with a Board Investigation
Under the Ohio Revised Code, Medical Board licensees must cooperate in an investigation conducted by the board. For instance, a licensee may be subject to a subpoena and required to answer questions honestly during the course of a deposition presented by the board. Please note that failure to cooperate with a Medical Board investigation, including failure to appear for a deposition, is grounds for board discipline.
