License renewals
Due to COVID-19, your license expiration may have been extended to December 1, 2020.
Although the state emergency has not been lifted, the December 1, 2020 deadline is approaching and will be enforced. By law, you will need to renew your license by December 1, 2020 for your license to remain active.
As a reminder, your renewal schedule has not changed, even though you were permitted to renew your license later than usual. For example, if your normal license renewal was due on June 30, 2020, your next renewal date will be on June 30, 2022, regardless of when you renew during the extension period.
To renew your license, log into your account at elicense.ohio.gov. Please feel free to contact us at License@med.ohio.gov if you have any questions or need any assistance during the renewal process.

September is National Preparedness Month
National Preparedness Month (NPM) is recognized annually in September to encourage family and community disaster planning not only for a month, but throughout the year. As our state and nation continue to respond to COVID-19, National Preparedness Month is an ideal time for Ohioans to ensure they are prepared for any disaster, including a pandemic. This year's theme for NPM is "Disasters Don't Wait. Make Your Plan Today." Visit ReadyOhio for additional information on emergency safety and preparedness. |

Ohio licensure during the state of emergency
The Medical Board has received many inquiries regarding temporary licensure during the state emergency. Please be aware, Ohio law does not currently offer emergency or temporary licensure for out-of-state physicians. Unless an exemption applies (Ohio Revised Code 4731.36), physicians must hold an active Ohio license to practice medicine in the state of Ohio.
Testing

Electronic Death Certification Available
All Ohio physicians may request to electronically complete and sign/certify the cause of death for Ohio records in the Electronic Death Registration System (EDRS). Switching to electronic certification eliminates in-person contact for funeral homes, medical providers, and local health districts, provides work queues in EDRS showing physicians at a glance all death records needing action, and allows immediate registration of death records upon certification. For questions or to sign up for electronic certification contact the Ohio Department of Health Bureau of Vital Statistics at VS.Helpdesk@odh.ohio.gov. Read the Medical Board's policy statement and FAQs here.
