On Monday, August 23, Ohio Department of Health (ODH) Director Bruce Vanderhoff, MD, released a statement regarding the FDA’s approval of the Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine, now known as Comirnaty, which received full approval for those ages 16 and up. Those ages 12-15 can continue to safely receive the vaccine under the emergency use authorization.

Many providers offer walk-in appointments, or Ohioans can schedule a vaccination appointment at Ohioans who want to learn more about the safety, efficacy, and side effects of COVID-19 vaccines should talk to their doctor, nurse, or pharmacist, or visit to learn more.

Primary Care Physician COVID-19 Testing of Symptomatic Patients

As Ohio continues to experience an increase in COVID-19 cases along with the rest of the country due to the Delta variant, the Ohio Department of Health (ODH) is asking that primary care providers continue to conduct diagnostic testing for SARS-CoV-2 for patients who present with signs and symptoms consistent with COVID-19 so that we may have an accurate picture of the disease prevalence in our state.
