The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention has issued a health advisory regarding the rapid increase in ivermectin prescriptions and reports of severe illness associated with use of products containing ivermectin to prevent or treat COVID-19. Click here to view the health advisory. 
Ohio Department of Health Issues Statement on Full Approval of Pfizer COVID-19 Vaccine

On Monday, August 23, Ohio Department of Health (ODH) Director Bruce Vanderhoff, MD, released a statement regarding the FDA’s approval of the Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine, now known as Comirnaty, which received full approval for those ages 16 and up. Those ages 12-15 can continue to safely receive the vaccine under the emergency use authorization.

 

COVID-19 vaccines are widely available throughout the state. Many providers offer walk-in appointments, or Ohioans can schedule a vaccination appointment at gettheshot.coronavirus.ohio.gov. Ohioans who want to learn more about the safety, efficacy, and side effects of COVID-19 vaccines should talk to their doctor, nurse, or pharmacist, or visit coronavirus.ohio.gov/vaccine to learn more.

Primary Care Physician COVID-19 Testing of Symptomatic Patients 

As Ohio continues to experience an increase in COVID-19 cases along with the rest of the country due to the Delta variant, the Ohio Department of Health (ODH) is asking that primary care providers continue to conduct diagnostic testing for SARS-CoV-2 for patients who present with signs and symptoms consistent with COVID-19 so that we may have an accurate picture of the disease prevalence in our state.

Telemedicine Update
The Medical Board approved new telemedicine FAQs. These FAQs provide guidance on telemedicine in Ohio and the Medical Board’s resumption of enforcement after December 31, 2021 of its laws and rules requiring in-person visits in certain situations. They can be found here.
