Updates & important information from the State Medical Board of Ohio

National Nutrition Month

Celebrated each March, National Nutrition Month is a campaign created by the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics to highlight the importance of healthful eating and physical activity habits. During March we will highlight dietitians on social media licensed by SMBO. We start with one of our own!

Don Davis has been a board staff member for four years and is a registered, licensed dietitian. He holds the privilege of being the only staff member that is also licensed by the board. He is currently a Program Administrator for the board and works closely with physicians for the Expert Review Program. He provides knowledge and experience to board staff regarding any dietetic issues that may arise. Prior to his current position, he was the Compliance Specialist for the Ohio Board of Dietetics for over 10 years, assuring public safety in the practice of dietetics through investigations and education.

Public Rules Hearing

A public hearing will be held via GoToWebinar on March 25 at 1:30 p.m. The proposed rule is applicable to licenses issued or renewed under the Interstate Medical Licensure Compact. Oral and written testimony may be presented by any person affected by the proposed rules.

Accepting Applications for Dietetics Advisory Council

The Medical Board is seeking licensed dietitian applicants for an open seat on the Dietetics Advisory Council. The Dietetics Advisory Council advises the board on issues related to the practice of dietetics. The time commitment is four (4) meetings per year in Columbus. Council members are reimbursed for actual and necessary expenses such as mileage and parking. If you know of any person who meets this criteria and is interested in this great opportunity for community service, please encourage them to fill out an online application. Deadline to apply is March 28.

Physician Reviewers Wanted

The Medical Board is seeking physicians to serve as reviewers for our Quality Intervention Program (QIP). The goal of QIP is to proactively identify clinical deficiencies that, if not corrected, could lead to violations of the Medical Practices Act and help licensees correct them through peer-to-peer feedback and, when indicated, non-disciplinary remedial education courses. The QIP process is confidential by law and reviewers are not required to provide formal testimony. QIP reviewers should be board-certified and hold an active Ohio medical license in good standing. Reviewers are needed in all areas of practice and are compensated for participation. If you are interested, please contact Rebecca Marshall, Chief of Quality Assurance, at Rebecca.Marshall@med.ohio.gov to receive more information.
