Updates & important information from the State Medical Board of Ohio

COVID-19 Vaccines Recommended for Infants and Young Children
COVID-19 vaccines are now recommended for children 6 months through 4 years following action by the U.S. Food & Drug Administration (FDA) and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). Click here to view the Ohio Department of Health's (ODH) provider guidance document.

Provider update on infant formula alternatives

Due to the recent Abbott infant formula recall and related formula shortages, the Ohio Department of Health (ODH) WIC Program is temporarily allowing several flexibilities, including more formula options (brands and container sizes) for standard milk and soy-based infant formulas. Additionally, the Ohio WIC Program is temporarily allowing the issuance of store brand hypoallergenic infant formulas.

Autism and opioid use disorder rejected as qualifying conditions

On Wednesday, June 8 the State Medical Board of Ohio voted to reject the petitions for autism spectrum disorder and opioid use disorder due to a lack of scientific evidence that supports the efficacy of medical marijuana for the two conditions. These conditions will not be added to Ohio’s Medical Marijuana Control Program at this time.

The board could review these conditions at a later date if additional studies or evidence are brought forth in the petition process. The next window for petitions will be November 1, 2022 through December 31, 2022.

ODH health alert: Monkeypox virus update

ODH has identified a probable case of monkeypox infection in an adult male Ohio resident based on preliminary testing at the ODH laboratory. Confirmatory monkeypox testing at the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) is pending. Click here to read the news release.

ODH has also created a memo that outlines resources available for the diagnosis of monkeypox and other important information. Healthcare providers who suspect monkeypox due to clinical presentation and patient history should report suspected cases to the appropriate local health department based on the patient’s address. Click here to view the memo.

FSMTB seeking input from massage therapists

FSMTB is asking for input from licensed massage therapists to determine the content of the Massage & Bodywork Licensing Exam (MBLEx®) and make sure that it reflects current practice. Immediately following, you will also have the opportunity to participate in a separate survey about sexual harassment experienced by massage therapists.

To access the Job Task Analysis Survey and the Sexual Harassment Survey, you may visit www.fsmtb.org. Both surveys are voluntary and anonymous.
