Since May 2022, more than 25,000 monkeypox cases have been identified in the United States. During the current outbreak in the U.S., 38 percent of people diagnosed with monkeypox were coinfected with HIV and most reported cases of monkeypox with severe manifestations have been among people living with untreated HIV.

Licensee Renewal & CME Requirements
License renewals can be submitted within 180 days prior to the expiration date. Ohio licenses must be renewed online at elicense.ohio.gov. As a reminder, physicians are required to complete 50 hours of Category 1 Continuing Medical Education (CME) every two-year registration period. A minimum of one hour must be on the topic of a licensee’s duty to report. The board has created a one-hour course designed to educate physicians (MDs, DOs and DPMs) on the duty to report to the State Medical Board of Ohio. Click here to view more information. The board selects physicians at random for auditing of CME hours. Physicians who fail to provide the requested information in the designated timeframe may be subject to disciplinary action.

Recently, the board has received reports of scammers calling providers, posing as Medical Board staff, stating the provider is being investigated by the FBI and their license has been suspended effective immediately.

Please remember, State Medical Board of Ohio investigators will not ask for fine payment or personal/sensitive information over the phone and will never contact licensees via fax.

Learn more by visiting our website. Discover how to identify a legitimate investigation, how to verify if the caller is from the Medical Board and how to file a complaint if you are contacted by a scammer.
